Prior to her appointment as the UNICEF Representative in the Kyrgyz Republic, Ms. Yukie Mokuo served as the UNICEF Representative in Ukraine from July 2009 – July 2014.
From January 2005- July 2009, Ms. Mokuo served as the UNICEF Representative in Tajikistan. In this position, she was responsible for planning, coordination and evaluation of a broad range of UNICEF programmes, both developmental and humanitarian, benefiting the status of children and women in Tajikistan.
From September 2001- December 2004, Ms. Mokuo was the Assistant Representative in Tajikistan. In this capacity and under the guidance of the Area Representative, she was responsible for the development, formulation and management of the UNICEF Country Programme of Cooperation including rapid emergency response.
Ms. Mokuo joined UNICEF in February 1995 as an Assistant Programme Officer in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. In 1997 she was appointed as a Head of Sub-Office, Project Officer for Basic Services in Pristina, Kosovo and subsequently reassigned to Podjorica, Montenegro as a Head of Sub-Office, Project Officer in December 1999 where she served until her appointment as the Assistant Representative in Tajikistan in September 2001.
Prior to joining UNICEF, Ms. Mokuo served as Regional Development Planning Assistant with the Research Institute in Japan from April 1983 to August 1987. From September 1987 to July 1990, she worked as Town Planner with Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteer’s Town and Country Planning Department, in Suva, Fiji. From May to July 1991, Ms. Mokuo worked as a Refugee Programme Field Officer in Turkey with the office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
Ms. Mokuo is a national of Japan. She graduated in 1983 with a Bachelor’s degree in Home Economics from the Japan Women’s University. In 1995 she earned her Master’s degree in Regional Planning/Development from Cornell University in the United States. She is married with one daughter.
