  • Why is a 30% gender quota in local councils important?

    On 6 March, a national forum was held in the state residence “Ala-Archa” with the participation of deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh, women deputies from local councils, Roza Otunbayeva, former president of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Chairman of the Central Electoral Commission of KR, representatives of the President’s Office, independent experts, representatives of non-governmental and international organizations.

  • “Think equal, build smart, innovate for change”: United Nations celebrate the International Women's Day in Talas

    TALAS, 5 March 2019 – more than 400 young people gathered today in Talas to listen to speeches of famous Kyrgyz people, about how to achieve success in life and choose their dream profession. This event was held under the UN auspices, as part of a global campaign to promote the rights and opportunities of women and girls, which was dedicated to the International Women's Day, with an emphasis to promote equality, generate innovations and technology for the changes. UN agencies, the Ministry of Labour and Social Development of the Kyrgyz Republic and Talas regional state administration were the organizers of the meeting with the youth of Talas.

  • UN talks "Every Girl Has a Dream" empower women and girls

    On 11 December 2018 the United Nations agencies conducted a meeting entitled “Every Girl Has a Dream!” in the format of UN talks in Bishkek. It was dedicated to the closure of the international campaign “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence” in Kyrgyzstan. This year, the campaign was held under the slogan "#HearMeToo: end violence against women and girls."

    Chynara Nurmanova won “The Best Teacher 2017” republican contest last year. Her subject is Civil Law at the school after T. Aybashev, Kulatov Aiyl okmotu of Nookat rayon in Osh Oblast. She was awarded the title “Excellent Education Collaborator”, received a laptop and a cash prize. Chynara Nurmanova admitted her achievements were prompted by cooperation with the UNDP in the organization of street theaters on legal thematic with children, and taking part in training.

    “I have never thought sexual violence would be such a challenging case to defend”-, says Aijan Orozakunova, one of the best lawyers that someone would know in Bishkek, capital of Kyrgyzstan. “When I have taken the rape case to follow, I was shocked by the assigned judicial sentence- the penalty was far from being fair. The perpetrator got three years and of course, we stepped in immediately to appeal for a stricter penalty. We won - he will be imprisoned for eight years now”

    Bekzhan Arakeev (22 years old) is a young already well-known entrepreneur in Yzar village of Jalal-Abad province. He is an initiator of the successful project on creating the plastic windows and doors manufacturing workshop. This specialized workshop is the first in Yzar village, where there are 3173 residents, and it becomes more popular day by day among the villagers. For him, the UNDP project “Youth for peaceful change” at the expense of the UN Peacebuilding Fund has become the main tool to achieve his ideas and funding, that gave him an opportunity to not only become independent but also widely share information about the opportunities for active youth.

  • From a landfill to a greenhouse: a story of transformation

    A local farmer has managed to eliminate a landfill in the center of the village of Jylkeldi (Ak-Tash aiyl okmotu, Kara-Suu district, Osh region) and built a greenhouse on this spot with a total area of 770 square meters.

  • The forest map goes digital

    To launch a single database, 6 desktops of increased capacity and additional equipment were handed over to the forestry of the country. The equipment was procured by UNDP and was handed over to the Department of the State Agency for Environmental Protection and Forestry under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic.
