21 vehicles from the Government of Japan to the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic
Voennoantonovka village, Chui oblast, Kyrgyz Republic (20 April) – Today, the handover ceremony is carried out at the field office of the Department of Chemicalization and Plant Protection under the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Industry and Melioration of the Kyrgyz Republic. H.E. Zheenbekov Sooronbai, Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic and H.E. Yashihiro Yamamura- the Ambassador of Japan to the Kyrgyz Republic and Kinlay Dorjee, FAO Representative in the Kyrgyz Republic opened the ceremony. Representatives of the Government who attend the event are Murashev Nurbek, Minister of Minister of Agriculture, Food Industry and Melioration, Kasymaliev Adylbek, Minister of Finance, Kudaibergenov Baktybek, Plenipotentiary of the Government in Chui oblast and Dalbaev Taalaibek, the Head of Agro-Industrial Complex and Ecology of the Prime Minister’s Office.
Procurement of vehicles is implemented in frames of the regional project "Project for Improvement of Locust Management” worth USD 5 million for three years with financial assistance from the Government of Japan and FAO’s technical support in close collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture. The overall objective of the project is to contribute to food security and livelihood of the rural populations in in Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan by preventing and limiting the threats posed by locusts and damage to crops and rangelands in the respect of human health and the environment. It is expected to improve national and regional locust management through development of increased national capacities and regional cooperation.
