International conference on implementation of the national system of monitoring of SDGs is being held in the Kyrgyz Republic


Representatives of national statistical services of the CIS countries, the Zhogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic, the President’s Office of the KR, the Government Office of the KR and international organizations are taking part in the International Conference on Implementation of the National Monitoring System of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which is being held in Bishkek 19-20 September 2016.

After the leaders of the UN member states adopted the SDGs till 2030 at the General Assembly, in September 2015, the interest in quality and availability of statistical data for the development, management and monitoring of implementation of national programs and strategies has increased.


Key statistics produced by national statistical offices in developing countries are an essential component of good governance. Thus, the role of statistical offices in collection, production, dissemination and data monitoring is very important to be successful in implementation of the SDGs.

International conference is being held in the framework of the resolution of the 47th session of the UN Statistical Commission and has the main purpose to identify strategic opportunities and guidance that would help facilitate implementation and monitoring of the SGDs indicators achievement through proper and fair use of data sources.

“In light of implementation of the SDGs, the National Statistics Committee of the Kyrgyz Republic faces the most important task for adoption and implementation of a unified system of monitoring of indicators for realization of these goals. This conference aimed at capacity building, identifying possible gaps in the existing system and ways to overcome them, planning of national measures for implementation of the SDGs monitoring system, as well as establishing exchange with colleagues of statistical services of UN member states,” stressed in his speech Azamat Orosbaev, First Deputy Chairman of the National Statistics Committee of the KR.

During the conference there will be also discussed the practical issues regarded to the definition of the main areas and building of the SDGs monitoring system, proper use of data sources and effective coordination of international development agencies.
