UNODC and SFIS hold seminar on combating money laundering and the financing of terrorism in Kyrgyzstan
Issues related to combating money laundering and the financing of terrorism were discussed at a two-day seminar organized by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Programme Office in the Kyrgyz Republic in partnership with the State Financial Intelligence Service (SFIS) under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic and financial support from the Government of the United States of America. The seminar was conducted on 18 to 19 December 2018 in Osh city.

UN talks "Every Girl Has a Dream" empower women and girls
On 11 December 2018 the United Nations agencies conducted a meeting entitled “Every Girl Has a Dream!” in the format of UN talks in Bishkek. It was dedicated to the closure of the international campaign “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence” in Kyrgyzstan. This year, the campaign was held under the slogan "#HearMeToo: end violence against women and girls."

“Super kaynata” contests support elimination of violence against women and girls
“Super kaynata” (super father-in-law) contests were conducted in 16 villages of Talas, Issyk-Kul, Batken and Osh provinces of Kyrgyzstan. The aim of the contest was to draw attention to the problem of gender-based violence in order to demonstrate creative potential of older people and young people to strengthen intergenerational ties.

UNODC, Qatar and Kyrgyzstan Prison Service cooperate to provide prisoners with job opportunities
Prison rehabilitation programs serve to prepare offenders for life after prison, prevent recidivism and build a safe and resilient society. The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and the State Prison Service of the Kyrgyz Republic showcased an example of such a program during a handover ceremony of furniture and IT equipment for the vocational training school in male prison #3, which took place today in Novopokrovka village, not far from Bishkek city.

A Long Road to Citizenship
People who newly became Kyrgyz citizens received national passport at the ceremony organized jointly by the Representation of the United Nations High Commissioner on Refugees (UNHCR), the Office of the Plenipotentiary Representative of the Government in Osh province, and the Department of Registration of Population and Acts of Civil Status of the State Registration Service under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic. These people are former stateless persons.

UN torture prevention experts to visit Kyrgyzstan
The United Nations Subcommittee on Prevention of Torture (SPT) will make its second visit to Kyrgyzstan from 11 to 22 September. The Subcommittee will assess measures taken to protect persons deprived of their liberty against torture and ill-treatment, and look into progress made in implementing the recommendations made following its first visit in 2012.

UN Women debriefed the Government Office on “Livelihoods through Participation and Equal Access to Water” project results
The purpose of the meeting was the formal hand-over of knowledge products developed within the project and brief Government on its results. The Government officials thanked UN Women Kyrgyzstan for the practical approach to project implementation, real partnership with the state at various levels and the generation of replicable products in line with Government strategies, such as the AIMAK e-governance system.
