    The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) and the National Strategic Institute for Strategic Studies (NISS) have developed an innovative online platform which can forecast food security crises before they become critical. The system, which collects and analyses massive amounts of food price data, provides early warning so that governments can take action before it is too late.

    UNODC initiates discussions on the role of women in preventing violent extremism in Kyrgyzstan

    The UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the Ministry of Interior (MoI) of the Kyrgyz Republic have partnered to promote the participation and engagement of women and girls in efforts to prevent violent extremism. During the summer months, 250 neighbourhood and youth inspectors from all regions participated in training courses organized by UNODC and led by trainers from the MoI’s Countering Extremism and Illegal Migration Service.

    Kyrgyzstan is one of the countries with low breastfeeding rates

    Bishkek, 1 August 2017 –UNICEF and World Health Organization (WHO) jointly with other academic institutions have conducted research “The Global Breastfeeding Scorecard” which evaluated 194 nations and found that only 40 per cent of children younger than six months are breastfed exclusively (given nothing but breast milk) and only 23 countries have exclusive breastfeeding rates above 60 per cent. According to UNICEF research in Kyrgyzstan, only 41% of children under 6 months are exclusively breastfed, and the number of children who are on predominant breastfeeding, comprises 69,5 per cent.

    UN Women presents a research on "Professional and Marriage Choices of Youth in Kyrgyzstan"

    In 2015 and 2016, UN Women Kyrgyzstan having worked on girl empowerment and youth participation for a number of years saw an opportunity to prepare a cadre of young national researchers and facilitate them in conducting research on professional and marriage choices of youth aged 14 through 28 in Kyrgyzstan. The aim was to understand the prevailing knowledge, attitudes and practices of youth that results in structural and socially accepted discrimination against girls and young women, and to identify strategies to empower them to make informed choices on marriage and career.
