World hunger is still not going down after three years and obesity is still growing – UN report
An estimated 820 million people did not have enough to eat in 2018, up from 811 million in the previous year, which is the third year of increase in a row. This underscores the immense challenge of achieving the Sustainable Development Goal of Zero Hunger by 2030.

Experts Discuss Industrial and Technological Priorities in Kyrgyzstan
The fourth in a series of development dialogues gathered leading experts, representatives of international organisations, as well as state ministries and agencies of Kyrgyzstan to discuss “Industrial and Technological Development of Kyrgyzstan”. The half-day development dialogue took place in Bishkek on June 24th, and was co-organised by the United Nations system in Kyrgyzstan and the University of Central Asia’s (UCA) Institute of Public Policy and Administration (IPPA). These dialogues support work on a long-term national policy on key development issues for Kyrgyzstan.

Kyrgyzstan celebrates the World Refugee Day!
World Refugee Day is also a moment to recognize the communities and people around the world who have opened their hearts and doors to refugees. The Kyrgyz Republic established its national asylum system and has generously provided safety to over 20,000 refugees since the 1990s. Many of these refugees either locally integrated into the Kyrgyz Republic, or were resettled, or returned voluntarily to their countries. Currently there are about 400 asylum seekers and refugees in the Kyrgyz Republic.

UNODC and Partners Strengthen Capacity of Prison and Probation Staff to Manage Violent Extremist Offenders in Kyrgyzstan
A 5-day training course on social rehabilitation of violent extremist offenders for some 25 newly recruited psychologists, social workers and inspectors of probation offices and open-type prisons from Jalal-Abad, Osh and Batken provinces in the south of Kyrgyzstan was conducted from 15 to 19 April 2019.

Development Dialogue Addresses Health Emergency Preparedness in Kyrgyzstan

UNHCR is handing over prefabricated housing units to the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Red Crescent Society of the Kyrgyz Republic
UNHCR National Office in the Kyrgyz Republic held an official handover of 72 prefabricated housing units (PHUs) worth a total of 78,840 Euros to the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic and 60 PHUs worth a total of 65,700 Euros to the Red Crescent Society of the Kyrgyz Republic and is conducting a two-day training on assembling the PHUs for the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Red Crescent Society personnel.

“Think equal, build smart, innovate for change”: United Nations celebrate the International Women's Day in Talas
TALAS, 5 March 2019 – more than 400 young people gathered today in Talas to listen to speeches of famous Kyrgyz people, about how to achieve success in life and choose their dream profession. This event was held under the UN auspices, as part of a global campaign to promote the rights and opportunities of women and girls, which was dedicated to the International Women's Day, with an emphasis to promote equality, generate innovations and technology for the changes. UN agencies, the Ministry of Labour and Social Development of the Kyrgyz Republic and Talas regional state administration were the organizers of the meeting with the youth of Talas.

Validation Workshop “Health and Pollution Action Plan (HPAP) for the Kyrgyz Republic”
On 16 January 2019, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) convened a high-level workshop in Bishkek for presenting a draft “Health and Pollution Action Plan” for validation with Kyrgyz and international stakeholders. This action plan was developed in the context of a global project funded by the European Union (EU), called “Mitigating Toxic Exposures in Low- and Middle-Income countries”. The project was supported by the EU with EUR 5 million over the past three years and is implemented by UNIDO. It aims to help governments in low- and middle-income countries to take action against environmental pollution and its impacts on human health. One of the five focus countries of the project is the Kyrgyz Republic.

UNODC and SFIS hold seminar on combating money laundering and the financing of terrorism in Kyrgyzstan
Issues related to combating money laundering and the financing of terrorism were discussed at a two-day seminar organized by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Programme Office in the Kyrgyz Republic in partnership with the State Financial Intelligence Service (SFIS) under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic and financial support from the Government of the United States of America. The seminar was conducted on 18 to 19 December 2018 in Osh city.
