UNODC sums up 9 months’ work results to support Law Enforcement in Kyrgyzstan
A coordination meeting of the Programme Office of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in the Kyrgyz Republic with key law enforcement partners and donors to sum up the joint activities under the sub-programme 1 “Countering transnational organized crime, illicit drug trafficking and prevention of terrorism” for the last nine months of 2018 was held in Bishkek, on 2 October 2018.

A Long Road to Citizenship
People who newly became Kyrgyz citizens received national passport at the ceremony organized jointly by the Representation of the United Nations High Commissioner on Refugees (UNHCR), the Office of the Plenipotentiary Representative of the Government in Osh province, and the Department of Registration of Population and Acts of Civil Status of the State Registration Service under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic. These people are former stateless persons.

UN torture prevention experts to visit Kyrgyzstan
The United Nations Subcommittee on Prevention of Torture (SPT) will make its second visit to Kyrgyzstan from 11 to 22 September. The Subcommittee will assess measures taken to protect persons deprived of their liberty against torture and ill-treatment, and look into progress made in implementing the recommendations made following its first visit in 2012.

UN Women debriefed the Government Office on “Livelihoods through Participation and Equal Access to Water” project results
The purpose of the meeting was the formal hand-over of knowledge products developed within the project and brief Government on its results. The Government officials thanked UN Women Kyrgyzstan for the practical approach to project implementation, real partnership with the state at various levels and the generation of replicable products in line with Government strategies, such as the AIMAK e-governance system.

On July 18, 2018, a new media campaign #БоорукерБол #БудьДобрее (“be kinder”) aimed at overcoming stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV was presented in Bishkek. The campaign will reach about 1,000,000 social network users in Kyrgyzstan.

The international scientific and practical workshop for pediatricians, social workers and psychologists of AIDS centers on the issues of treatment, care and support to children with HIV finished its work today. The event was supported by the Ministry of Healthcare of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republican AIDS Center, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS).
