Access to quality formal services in early childhood education and care (ECEC) plays a crucial role from the perspective of two stakeholders: children as receivers of care and parents as primary providers of care. This study contributes to the policy debate on ECEC expansion in Kyrgyz Republic—particularly from a fiscal policy perspective that focuses on potential short-run economic returns.

In 2015 and 2016, UN Women Kyrgyzstan having worked on girl empowerment and youth participation for a number of years saw an opportunity to prepare a cadre of young national researchers and facilitate them in conducting research on professional and marriage choices of youth aged 14 through 28 in Kyrgyzstan. The aim was to understand the prevailing knowledge, attitudes and practices of youth that results in structural and socially accepted discrimination against girls and young women, and to identify strategies to empower them to make informed choices on marriage and career.

“My Safe and Peaceful School" Manual
“My Safe and Peaceful School" Manual is the key element of the last component of the UN Women project “Building a Constituency for Peace” funded by UN Peacebuilding Fund and from 2016 year is being implemented within the UN Women project “Livelihoods through participation and equal access to water” funded by the Government of Finland. From this book youth will learn about gender equality, human rights, the rights and duties of citizens as rights holders and state functionaries as duty bearers. It will also further train their mind to think analytically and assess the current situation in their school, university, or community in a balanced way, with a view to addressing, mitigating and resolving conflicts, and bringing about (as the title of this manual suggests) safe and peaceful schools, higher education institutions, and communities.

The manual has been prepared by the Foundation for Tolerance International (FTI) under the project “Building a Constituency for Peace” financed by UN Peacebuilding fund and implemented by UN Women Country Office in the Kyrgyz Republic.This Manual is an educational course aimed at developing knowledge and practical skills to improve prevention and response to conflicts arising at the local level from human rights and gender perspectives.
Gender-Responsive Budgeting in the Kyrgyz Republic
This paper describes the context, key activities and project objectives, thanks to which gender-responsive budgeting case in KR can be considered successful. The cooperation experience between different players in gender-responsive budgeting showcased the possibility and ability of a non-governmental organization to be a serious resource for budgeting policy in the country, as “Innovative solution Inc.”, at the request of state agencies, has analyzed and revised methodological fundamentals of the budgeting process to include a gender dimension in to these standards.
Food Security Atlas, Kyrgyz Republic, 2016
The National Food Security Atlas reviews 28 indicators selected for measuring various aspects of food security in accordance with the Food Law of the Kyrgyz Republic which defines food security as a state where physical and economic access to food is guaranteed for the population, in accordance with minimal norms of food consumption6. To support a better understanding of food security situation, the National Food Security Atlas groups these indicators into four dimensions of food security: availability, access, utilization and stability.
