    In rural Kyrgyzstan, Coding Caravan encourages girls’ leadership and entrepreneurship

    In rural Kyrgyzstan, the first ever Technovation Coding Caravan for girls has taught more than 600 girls the basics of computer programming. Launched in Talas Province, the caravan reached Issyk-Kul, Naryn, Jalal-Abad, Batken, and Osh provinces this spring.

    The United Nations in Kyrgyzstan together with the Institute of Public Policy and Administration of the University of Central Asia presents a policy briefs, produced as a result of a multi-stakeholder dialogue with participation of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic, development partners, academia, private sector and civil society. In this document a short review of the current situation and trends in health emergency preparedness policy is presented as well as a set of recommendations for coordinating such policy in terms of legislation, implementation of the International Health Regulations, organizing volunteers and psychological help during emergencies and many other aspects.

    Experts Discuss Industrial and Technological Priorities in Kyrgyzstan

    The fourth in a series of development dialogues gathered leading experts, representatives of international organisations, as well as state ministries and agencies of Kyrgyzstan to discuss “Industrial and Technological Development of Kyrgyzstan”. The half-day development dialogue took place in Bishkek on June 24th, and was co-organised by the United Nations system in Kyrgyzstan and the University of Central Asia’s (UCA) Institute of Public Policy and Administration (IPPA). These dialogues support work on a long-term national policy on key development issues for Kyrgyzstan.

    Kyrgyzstan celebrates the World Refugee Day!

    World Refugee Day is also a moment to recognize the communities and people around the world who have opened their hearts and doors to refugees. The Kyrgyz Republic established its national asylum system and has generously provided safety to over 20,000 refugees since the 1990s. Many of these refugees either locally integrated into the Kyrgyz Republic, or were resettled, or returned voluntarily to their countries. Currently there are about 400 asylum seekers and refugees in the Kyrgyz Republic.

    UNODC - World Customs Organization strengthen Customs officers’ capacity in Strategic Trade and Export Control in Kyrgyzstan

    The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the World Customs Organization (WCO) Global Container Control Programme conducted a Strategic Trade and Export Control awareness raising training-course for some 20 Customs officers on 13 to 17 May 2019 in the Regional Training Center of the World Customs Organization in Leninskoe village, Kyrgyzstan.

Отчет явился результатом нескольких исследований, проведенных до и после недельной миссии MAPS по интеграции, ускрению и поддержке политики в Бишкеке, проведенной в период с 25 по 30 июня 2018 года. Необходимо подчеркнуть роль и участие членов Правительства, экспертов, представителей частного сектора и гражданского общества, которые открыто и активно участвовали в мероприятиях в рамках миссии.

    UNODC and Partners Strengthen Capacity of Prison and Probation Staff to Manage Violent Extremist Offenders in Kyrgyzstan

    A 5-day training course on social rehabilitation of violent extremist offenders for some 25 newly recruited psychologists, social workers and inspectors of probation offices and open-type prisons from Jalal-Abad, Osh and Batken provinces in the south of Kyrgyzstan was conducted from 15 to 19 April 2019.

    Development Dialogue Addresses Health Emergency Preparedness in Kyrgyzstan

    Over 60 high-level government representatives, parliamentarians, development partners, researchers, technical experts on health, and civil society representatives came together to share inputs on strengthening health emergency preparedness and readiness to advance health security in the Kyrgyz Republic during a development dialogue on April 9th, 2019. The Development Dialogue was co-organised by the United Nations (UN) system in Kyrgyzstan, and the University of Central Asia’s (UCA) Institute of Public Policy and Administration (IPPA). This was the third in a series of six such development dialogues.

    United States partners with UNODC to support Kyrgyzstan in countering money laundering and combatting the financing of terrorism

    The United States contributed $400,000 US dollars for the implementation of an initiative in partnership with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Programme Office in the Kyrgyz Republic under the so-called “Capacity building for effective identifying and recovering the proceeds of crime in Kyrgyzstan” project.

    UNHCR is handing over prefabricated housing units to the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Red Crescent Society of the Kyrgyz Republic

    UNHCR National Office in the Kyrgyz Republic held an official handover of 72 prefabricated housing units (PHUs) worth a total of 78,840 Euros to the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic and 60 PHUs worth a total of 65,700 Euros to the Red Crescent Society of the Kyrgyz Republic and is conducting a two-day training on assembling the PHUs for the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Red Crescent Society personnel.

    On 6 March, a national forum was held in the state residence “Ala-Archa” with the participation of deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh, women deputies from local councils, Roza Otunbayeva, former president of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Chairman of the Central Electoral Commission of KR, representatives of the President’s Office, independent experts, representatives of non-governmental and international organizations.
